IMPACT REPORTING & EVALUATION

FSI Small Charity Members and Associate Members receive 20% discount on our consultancy fees

We have outlined three packages of support below; however, please contact development@thefsi.org to discuss your specific needs and how we can help

Project Evaluation

We will review the planning documentation and existing monitoring and evaluation data for your project to identify the aims and objectives of the project and potential outcomes.  We will review existing monitoring and evaluation data to identify gaps.  We will then address those gaps through a mixture of qualitative and quantitative data collection, using participative and inclusive practices.

We will analyse the data and produce a written evaluation report which will include the evaluation findings, wider benefits of the project and challenges, learning and recommendations.  If you require, we can have the report professionally designed and set, and supplied in both web and print formats.

Annual Impact Report

We will spend a day onsite to understand the full impact of your work and to identify key audiences and messages for the Impact Report.  We will review your organisational strategy and planning documents to understand key objectives and activities.  We will review existing monitoring and evaluation data to identify gaps in data and then address gaps through a mixture of qualitative and quantitative data collection, using participative and inclusive practices.

We will analyse the data and produce a written Impact Report for your charity which can be used with a range of audiences.  The report will be professionally designed and set and will be supplied in both web and print formats.

Social Return on Investment

Social Return on Investment (SROI) is a tool designed to understand the wider social value created by an organisation.  It considers what benefit is realised by a number of stakeholders – including (but not limited to) beneficiaries and their significant others, as well as key organisational stakeholders –  employees, volunteers and partners.  SROI quantifies these benefits and calculates their value in order to understand the social value created by an organisation and its activities.

The FSI is a member of Social Value UK, and we adhere to their principles and process for calculating Social Return on Investment, which includes the following key steps:

  1. Establishing scope and identifying key stakeholders

  2. Mapping outcomes

  3. Evidencing outcomes and giving them a value

  4. Establishing impact, including calculation of deadweight, displacement, attribution and drop-off

  5. Calculating the Social Return on Investment

  6. Reporting, Embedding and Using

The report will be professionally designed and set and will be supplied in both web and print formats.

Case Study – Maundy Relief Project Evaluation

Maundy Relief approached the FSI in order to undertake an independent evaluation of their work and produce an Impact Report to support an application to the Big Lottery’s Reaching Communities fund.

The challenge: Maundy Relief is based in Accrington, Lancashire and are an integral part of the local community, providing an immediate response to poverty and need. In order to do this they provide a range of services including a hot lunch and food bank, advice, counselling and a nurse service. Like many small organisations, Maundy undertake a range of services which can make measuring and demonstrating their impact more difficult.

How we helped:  We first assessed the outcomes achieved by the organisation and then designed a plan to collect a range of both qualitative and quantitative data.
In order to show the difference made by their services we used an innovative approach and mapped their outcomes against Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Using this method we were able to show the importance of the whole range of their work from giving out food parcels to counselling.

We then collected data including existing monitoring and evaluation data, developed a survey and undertook a number of focus groups and stakeholder interviews.

All of this data was then analysed and used to produce a report demonstrating the impact Maundy had on their guests, and also including benefits to their volunteers as these were clear from our data collection. A section showing the reduced pressure on other statutory services was also included as these were key stakeholders for Maundy, and it was hoped the impact report would have multiple uses going forward.

The results: We produced a detailed Impact Report which outlined the difference Maundy Relief makes to a range of stakeholders. This included some outputs data, outcomes in various forms and for various stakeholders. This was submitted to Maundy Relief who were successful in receiving a grant of £306,218 for three years of funding from the Big Lottery.

Testimonial

"Working with the FSI was a very positive experience for Maundy Relief. We felt that our consultant quickly understood the core values that underpin the range of services we offer and that he was able to engage with our service users, volunteers and staff with sensitivity and understanding.

The feedback from the focus groups was overwhelmingly positive with service users telling us that they felt their voices had been listened to and that they had been given the space to make a valuable contribution to our work.

The process also gave staff and volunteers the opportunity to step back from the day-to-day and to think about our roots, achievements, challenges and future. The resulting impact report was excellent and not only greatly strengthened our Big Lottery bid but also continues to provide a concise and thoughtful overview of our work to other funders and a variety of stakeholders.
