GDPR in a post Brexit World
GDPR came into force in May 2018 with the aim of normalising data privacy laws across Europe.
Though Brexit is about to become a reality, GDPR legislation is here to stay. The government intends to incorporate GDPR into UK data protection law, so in practice there will be little change to the core data protection principles, rights and obligations found in the GDPR.
However, we need to be aware of how any changes within law will affect GDPR and any updates to our current practcie we may need to take to ensure we remain compliant. If we leave the EU without a deal, GDPR transfer rules will apply to any data coming from the EEA into the UK. You need to consider what GDPR safeguards you can put in place to ensure that data can continue to flow to your charity.
