This provides a valuable opportunity for charities to review or set out their overall mission, vision and objectives and develop their strategy and business plans.

Facilitated Strategy Planning Day
We will work with you to identify the key objectives and challenges to be addressed during your away day. We will agree with you an agenda that uses participatory and inclusive facilitation techniques led by an experienced FSI consultant. We will provide a write up of the day including next steps and recommendations.
Developing a 3-5 Year Strategy Document
We will deliver an interactive and engaging away day for staff, trustees, volunteers and other stakeholders. We will work with you to identify the key objectives and challenges to be addressed during your away day. We will agree with you an agenda that uses participatory and inclusive facilitation techniques led by an experienced FSI consultant. We undertake further research and analysis in order to produce a 3-5 year strategy document which will set out the overall mission, vision and objectives, and strategic priorities of your organisation.
Developing a Business Plan
With a 3-5 year strategy in place, the annual business plan sets out in detail what the organisation plans to do in order to deliver against the strategy. We will facilitate a half-day planning meeting and undertake further one-to-one meetings with each team or programme lead. We will undertake desk-based research and analysis on the external environment and potential development opportunities. We will produce an annual business plan which includes:
- Key objectives for the year ahead and the activities and resources required to meet your objectives
- Resourcing, including recommended staffing and volunteer structures
- Budgets (using full cost recovery)
- Assumptions, dependencies and risks
- Business Plan monitoring and evaluation processes
Case Study: Viewpoint Community Media Strategy Development
Viewpoint Community Media work to give voice to the diverse aspects of the Swindon community and to encourage community cohesion and understanding. We worked with them to develop a strategy and identify key strategic objectives.
The challenge: Viewpoint Community Media wanted to access support to develop a strong case for support and engage potential supporters. Following a discussion with the Trustee leading on this work, the FSI identified that there was not a clear strategy or objectives in place. We therefore focused our initial support on a strategy away day with Trustees and developing a five year strategy.
How we helped: We facilitated an interactive strategy away day with the Trustees of Viewpoint Community Media. This explored current challenges and opportunities, the future vision and mission, and strategic work streams and priorities.
We coupled this with detailed research into the charity and the environment it was operating in, to produce a five year strategy document.
The results: Viewpoint Community Media now have a renewed vigour at Trustee level and can focus on key strategic priorities. The forward strategy will enable them to articulate their plans and vision for the future and to engage others in their work.
