In the current climate of safeguarding scares and declining public trust in the charity sector, join Steve Smith in this session. Learning outcomes from this workshop are:

  • Understanding what safeguarding is and the policies and procedures that need to be in place 
  • To understand the different types of abuse and be able to spot it 
  • To know what to do if there are safeguarding concerns

About Steve Smith, Community Southwark
Steve has worked as the Partnerships and Policy Officer at Community Southwark since April 2016. Steve’s work involves understanding local and national policies and practices that impact on Southwark’s voluntary and community sector in Southwark. Steve is also responsible for establishing and developing sector networks of local providers to act as a focal point information sharing and acting as a voice to decision makers. The organisation lead on training around safeguarding and risk assessment, Steve has been delivering general and bespoke training on safeguarding to a wide range of organisations in Southwark. Prior to joining Community Southwark, Steve worked at the National Council for Voluntary Organisations and the Royal Voluntary Service. Steve also spent many years at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills at Assistant Director level, developing and delivering on a wide range of government policy.
