An event in Hackney 'Inspiration'

Friday, 21 September 2007
Last Saturday Kim and I spent the afternoon at an event in Hackney ‘Inspiration’ organised by The Robert Levy Foundation and it was, just that, an inspiration.  The event was to celebrate the life of an amazing young man Robert Levy who life was taken prematurely, a victim of the gun and knife crime we are experiencing in the UK today.  His family are amazing and we met some great young people, who inspired by Roberts memory, were doing amazing things with their lives and really trying to put something back into their communities.
It’s the people we meet from charities every day that have really inspired The FSI to happen.  They have given us encouragement and their organisations have inspired us to ‘want to help’.  Carol went to meet a Charity in Wales today to see how we might support them.  I asked her when she came back “well how did it go” only to get the same reply I get from Kim after she has been on a visit “Fantastic! Great organisation, I want to work with them!” If only there were more hours in the day and we had more resources!

It’s not all inspirational meetings and uplifting experiences however, and when you are just starting up you wear lots of hats.  Today I have been the administrator, the researcher and the chief executive all in one day but mostly the administrator!  So beware, thinking of starting something up, be prepared to do any and every job that’s going!

Momentum is undoubtedly growing though and we know we need to be exploring and learning about the best avenues to make our work really impact on the Third Sector, so keep in touch!
