FSI announces launch of its Scholarship in Professional Fundraising Magazine

Thursday, 06 March 2008

We are extremely proud to announce our most recent investment in small charities through the launch of The FSI Scholarship Programme, an annual award made by The FSI as part of our ‘empowering leadership for change’ agenda.

Each year we will be searching for a ‘rising star’ in the world of fundraising with the aim of kick starting development opportunities for scholars who have a passion for working in the Not-for-profit sector.

Emma Harrison, Chair of Trustees said, “Through my business A4e I am able to really improve people’s lives, but what we are trying to do at The FSI is to build capacity of organisations who improve society. To do that we need to inspire, encourage and elevate those who have the passion and commitment necessary to work in this amazingly creative and innovative sector. I am inspired that the team at The FSI are already seeking out talented individuals and investing in them.”

If you are currently responsible for fundraising and interested in knowing more check out more details here.

Pauline is equally as thrilled and said “We want as many potential applicants as possible to check out the opportunity and apply. I’m just so excited about finding our first scholar and working with them over the next two years and giving them as much support, encouragement and learning as possible so that they can really make a difference and pass that learning on to others.”

A fantastic fundraising opportunity for your charity.

On Saturday 7th June the Foundation for Social Improvement is hosting a 4km and 10km Challenge in Derbyshire as an opportunity for you to recruit entrants to raise money for your cause.

The Challenge is in the Peak District,  near Bakewell, and ends at the private home of Emma Harrison, the Secret Millionaire and founder of the FSI.

Thornbridge Hall is a stunning stately home with magnificent grounds where a BBQ will be held after the activity for all to enjoy.

Choose to walk or run the 4km or 10km route – a great day out for all the family.

If you are interested in getting entrants for your charity let us know and we will send you an electronic registration form  -  contact: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

We’ll also send you a pack to help support your entrants, including:
- A sample poster for you to use

It started with a purple paperclip....

Tuesday, 22 January 2008

Dominique Swirles and Kelly Ulatowski have agreed to run the 2008 London Marathon for The FSI and The FSI are crazy enough to set them a second challenge at the same time. It goes something like this…

Kelly and Dominique have each been given a purple paperclip. They have 70 days (until the 30th March 2008) to trade their paperclips for bigger and better items. After the deadline has passed the much bigger and brilliant items are then put on to eBay to auction (or the most suitable auctioning house) to raise funds towards our marathon targets - combined they are over £30,000!

How it works.

Dominique currently has  'A Thousand Splendid Suns' by Khaled Hosseini - author of The Kiterunner - hardback book

Kelly currently has three options:

a Box of Fortnum and Mason Chocolates
a Bottle of Amor Perfume from Cacharel
or a BNIB Foo Fighters Live in London Hyde Park Skin and Bones DVD

Don't forget it's nearly Mothers' Day!

Do you have anything you would like to trade for any of our items? Keep up to date with the goings on, and get involved in the swap, by joining 'The FSI Marathon Trade Up' group on Facebook. If you're not on Facebook, create a page to join in! Then if you have a proposal for a swap simply post your proposal addressed to your chosen runner on the discussion board or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it   and we will get in touch with you if we are interested in a trade. The item that offers the biggest step up from the current item will be agreed for a trade. Think big, think bold, think money can’t buy and help us raise funds to support The FSI.

All trades will be subject to handover agreements made between The FSI and traders.
