Shared Care Network

Shared Care Network was founded by short break scheme organisers who felt a need for a co-ordinating national body to share information and promote good practice in this newly developing field. It was registered as a charity in March 1990. Today, Shared Care Network represents around 180 services UKwide providing short break services to support disabled children and their families.

Mission statement

Our mission is to increase significantly the quality, diversity and availability of short breaks for disabled children & young people. To achieve this we will:
• Work with all those in the short breaks sector to research good practice and disseminate it widely.
• Support those working in the sector by providing short break specific training, consultancy, information, resources and carer recruitment services.
• Lobby the governments and assemblies of the United Kingdom to influence policy and practice.
• Raise awareness of the opportunities and benefits short breaks offer disabled children and their families.
• Work in partnership with other organisations to promote access to equality of opportunity for disabled people and their families.
