The FSI offers, without cost, an extensive programme of learning opportunities tailored to meet the specific needs of small charities. As part of this programme we would like to offer the following training opportunity for up to 14 delegates. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

The use of social media has exploded in recent years, and can be a valuable tool for small charities to communicate their good work. Research suggests that an organisation’s social media activity can have significant impact on their brand reputation, whether positive or negative – bringing both opportunities and risks.

This course will help you understand how you can use social media to enhance and promote your valuable work. We will look at how social media fits with your overall marketing and communications strategy. We will also consider several case studies, providing both good and poor examples of how social media has been used by other charities.

This practical, hands-on course will also provide an opportunity for participants to work on their profiles for several social media platforms, such as Linked in, Facebook and Twitter. We recommend that participants bring a laptop with wifi capability to ensure maximum benefit from the course.

Target Audience: This course will benefit anyone in a marketing and communications role, who want to find out how they can best harness social media tools for their charity.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

Recognise the importance of social media and where it fits in their overall marketing mix.

Describe how social media differs from traditional media routes.

Ensure that social media activity is consistent with their organisation and brand.

Monitor their brand and what is being said about their small charity, tracking online activity.

Identify and mitigate the risks associated with using social media.

Use a range of social media tools to support their communications activity, including Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.

Previous FSI courses (Developing Corporate Relationships, Understanding Statutory Funding, Successful Events) have taught the processes by which small charities can actively foster support from other organisations. This course will help you to maximise your effectiveness in implementing these processes by teaching you additional skills that will improve your ability to call target companies and enroll them to your cause.

Target Audience

This course is for anyone who has previously attended either of the three courses above. It is ideal for anyone who would like to enhance their telephone skills to ramp up the return on their investment in time in this area. You will be currently actively seeking support (even if very unsuccessfully) and looking for ways to make it both easier and more effective.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, you will know:

What to say. Including knowing how pitch your ideas, question to build commitment, get past gatekeepers and overcome objections.

How to say it and when. Communicating more naturally and effectively, including learning specific listening skills, effective language structuring and knowing how to manage your tone, pace and volume, is crucial to developing strong rapport – the bedrock of any relationship.

How to manage your mindset. Our thoughts in our head fundamentally dictate our experience of life. Learning how to manage what is going on in your head will enable you to bounce back from rejection, and actually find cold calling an easy and fulfilling activity. With the right mindset, your ability to obtain support will also sky-rocket.

How to build an effective plan and get fully behind it. Reconnect with your true purpose, decide on long-term objectives and then establish a plan that will be both simple to follow and will ensure you achieve your targets.

About the trainer: Nick Broughton – Director, Call Dynamix

Call Dynamix began when Nick took responsibility for training up new consultants whilst at a city-based executive search firm.

As one of the company’s fastest and most consistent billers ever, Nick utilised what he had learnt and combined this with his extensive knowledge of NLP, Co-Active Coaching and other progressive teaching techniques. The new starters were quickly generating significant revenue, more than any previous starter by quite some margin.

Nick is bringing his extensive knowledge and experience to the small charity sector and has developed this course specifically for the FSI. We think it’s a fantastic opportunity to upskill and get corporate and statutory sector supporters on board with your cause!

Availability: 14 places which will be allocated on a first come first served basis to employees or volunteers from 100% not-for-profit organisations with a raised voluntary income of less than £1.5 million.

It is increasingly important in today’s economic climate to maximise all opportunities that you have to raise income. Whether you are funded mainly by voluntary or statutory income you should explore the possibility of setting up your own ‘Mission Based Enterprise’ an enterprise that not only secures long term (unrestricted) funding for your charity but also has the same aims and objectives (social purpose) as your charity. Indeed you will be ensuring that the charity itself is doing well by doing even more good.

Target Audience

This course is aimed at those in positions within their organisation who have the remit to look at expanding the horizons to include new ways of funding programmes and also for those who may be setting out to develop a social purpose enterprise whether that be as a charity, as a company limited by guarantee (not-for-profit/often termed social enterprise).

*Note social enterprises need to ensure that we have had full sight of their governing document prior to booking onto this course

Learning Outcomes

The Training will cover:

The FSI offers, without cost, an extensive programme of learning opportunities tailored to meet the specific needs of small charities. As part of this programme we would like to offer the following training opportunity for up to 14 delegates. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Both central and local government have moved away from grant-making to commissioning services from the third sector. This course provides an overview of the expectations of public sector funders and outlines best practice in bidding to the public sector. The third sector is well-placed to deliver high-quality public services – but small charities need to present themselves as fit-for-purpose to make the most of the opportunities!

Target Audience:

Anyone who would like to learn more about public service commissioning and opportunities for their small charity.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

Describe the new public sector commissioning environment and models for delivery.

Identify opportunities to secure statutory funding.

Assess whether a consortium approach is suitable for their organisation, taking into account potential
benefits and risks.

Research potential supply chain opportunities to subcontract work from larger organisations.

Develop a bid which covers key requirements; including aims, services, costs and credibility.
