Training – Developing Earned Income
It is increasingly important in today’s economic climate to maximise all opportunities that you have to raise income. Whether you are funded mainly by voluntary or statutory income you should explore the possibility of setting up your own enterprise which will help you secure long-term, unrestricted funding for your charity. You will be ensuring that the charity itself is doing well by doing even more good work.
Target Audience
This course is aimed at those in positions within their organisation who have the remit to look at expanding the horizons to include new ways of funding programmes. It will also be useful for those who may be setting out to develop a social enterprise.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the different forms that enterprise can take for their small charity, with reference to legal structures.
- Assess whether earned income is suitable for their charity, taking into account their mission, values, culture and ethical dilemmas.
- Use a range of creative thinking tools to generate options and evaluate trading ideas.
- Develop their enterprise idea – including resource requirements, budgets, costing and funding.
- Gain valuable peer feedback on their enterprise idea!

Availability: 14 places which will be allocated on a first come first served basis to employees or volunteers from 100% not-for-profit organisations with a raised voluntary income of less than £1.5 million.
