Training – Securing Gifts from Major Donors
The FSI offers, without cost, an extensive programme of learning opportunities tailored to meet the specific needs of small charities. As part of this programme we would like to offer the following training opportunity for up to 14 delegates. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
Major Donor fundraising is the fastest growing area of new income for charities in the UK and internationally.
Participants will be introduced to an eight step process in identifying and securing major individual donors. This session will cover six of the eight steps:
1. Identify
2. Research
3. Plan
4. Engage
5. Ask
6. Close
Following this course we strongly recommend delegates attend our stewardship course, which covers the last steps of major donor fundraising. This course goes beyond the ‘expected thanks’ and teaches delegates how to keep their valuable donors near and dear to them, increasing the likelihood of future gifts.
Target Audience
This course will benefit those with a responsibility for major donor fundraising, senior development professionals, chief executives and trustees.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Identify potential donors both within and outside their current networks.
Use a range of tools and forms to support donor research in their own organisations, taking into account resource, ethical and legal considerations.
Create a donor solicitation plan and prioritise prospects.
Engage potential major donors using a four-step process.
Use appropriate language and communication to ask a major donor for a gift, overcoming potential objections. This section of the course is filled with practice scenarios and role plays.
Describe the process of closing; including negotiation, agreements and the transition to step 7 (Thank).
