10km Challenge 2009

The Location: Thornbridge Hall, Derbyshire – the beautiful Peak District
The Why: The great outdoors, the fun, the small charities, the fitness encourager
The FSI Challenge 2009 attracted 216 entrants walking or running around the stunning Peak District and finishing at Emma Harrison’s stately home Thornbridge Hall. 21 small charities were supported by entrants and we can’t wait to let you know just how much was raised for all these great charities.
12 of these charities raised £8,643 between them!

Next year’s challenge will be held on Saturday 5th July 2010. Just get in touch if you’d like to get involved.
With no entrance fee and lots of fun for all the family, why not challenge yourself next year to get fit and healthy, and raise some money for the FSI or a small charity you support*? Ask your friends, family and colleagues to join in.
You can:
• walk or run
• choose the 4km or 10km (through Bakewell) route
• push a pushchair on the 4km route ¥
• relax in the grounds of Thornbridge Hall – Emma Harrison’s private stately home (Secret Millionaire and founder of the FSI)
• join the cheer team at the Finish – Thornbridge Hall
• enjoy a BBQ and drinks
If you don’t live close to Derbyshire, why not make a weekend of it? Thornbridge Hall is just 15 miles from Chatsworth House and some stunning walks in the Peak District.

Communication Matters - Supporting all people with speech, language and communication needs who require technology to help them communicate more easily – verbally and in writing – by providing training, information and support to individuals, their families and professionals.
Letchworth Arts Centre - “Providing access to the arts for people of all ages from across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.”
Whitgift SNAP is a leading special needs charity providing holiday schemes for residents of the London Borough of Croydon. SNAP stands for Special Needs Activity Project and aims to provide playschemes to disabled children and young people between the ages of 5 and 25.
The AHS Foundation is a charity dedicated to saving lives, improving conditions, and rebuilding communities and infrastructures in areas affected by natural disaster.
Luton Accomodation & Move-On Project (LAMP) is a Christian charity working with homeless 16-25 year olds in Luton, Bedfordshire. These young people are supported and guided through the perils of living in today’s society. LAMP works in schools, delivering Homeless Prevention Workshops, breaking down prejudices and giving vital information.
for dementia is a national registered charity that supports the carers and families of people with all forms of dementia. We provide Admiral Nurses for carers and training for care workers.
Sheffield Mencap & Gateway was set up in 1951, by parents of people with learning disabilities who wanted to give their children a better life. We are no the largest local charity providing support and services for children and adults with a learning disability, helping over 700 families in Sheffield.
SolarAid enables the world’s poorest communities to have clean, renewable power – fighting climate change and global poverty together.
The Main Project - Autism Support, we provide advice and support by caring knowledgeable staff for families in the Tees Valley Area who have children with an autistic spectrum condition. We offer home visits, support groups, website/internet access, a resource library, social clubs for children aged 12-19, after school provision, workshops and seminars, enabling parents/carers and professionals the opportunity to increase their knowledge and understanding of autism.
The BIGKID Foundation aims to reduce the number of young people dying to gun and knife crime and gang culture and increase the number of leaders that will effectively impact their peers and communities. Our mission is to “Change the world, one kid at a time.”
Ann Craft Trust (ACT) is a national charity working with staff in the statutory, independent and voluntary sectors in the interests of people with learning disabilities who may be at risk from abuse.
The Baden Powell Scouts’ Association is an independent Scout Association which uses traditional Scouting Skills as laid down by Lord Robert Baden-Powell. The aim of our Association is, as stated by Baden-Powell himself, to promote good citizenship and wholesome physical, mental development; and training in habits of observation, discipline, self-reliance, loyalty, and useful life skills.
Inner Flame runs Fire Me Up!, a new residential course for people aged 14-18. Participants experience a unique opportunity for personal growth and development
Amy’s House is a weekend respite facility that cares for special needs children and their siblings. The children who benefit from Amy’s House suffer from a number of disabilities including ADHD, Epilepsy, Autism, Down’s Syndrome, Asperger’s and physical and mental disabilities.
Hallam FM’s Cash for Kids raises money to give grants to children’s charities throughout the CFM transmission area (Cumbria and Southwest Scotland). All the money is raised locally and spent locally and goes to children and young people, under 18: with mental, physical or sensory disabilities, with behavioural or psychological disorders, living in poverty or situations of deprivation, suffering through distress, abuse or neglect.
Mayflower Sanctuary is a re-homing centre for abandoned and abused dogs covering a 50 mile radius of Doncaster.
Sheffield Kidney Research Foundation raises funds for research into new treatments for Kidney Disease.
The Lainey K Foundation financially supports young families with cancer.
Women’s Housing Action Group provides good quality temporary accommodation and quality support services to vulnerable women between the ages of 16 and 65 who are homeless and/or threatened with homelessness.
Home-Start High Peak offers support, friendship and practical help to parents with young children, in local communities.
